What is/was Reconstruction?
The reconstruction time is after the civil war was done. Between the South, and North.

What went well? Abraham Lincoln in (1862) was named new provisional military governors to try and govern the Southern states. The radicals wanted to make sure that the African Americans would be given there on rights as a American. As well the republicans wanted there to be no slaves and as well didn’t want African Americans to be slaves.

What went poorly?
Abraham Lincoln was assassination on April of 1865, made Andrew Johnson the President of the Untied States. He alienated congress with his reconstruction policy. He as well was impeached twice but nether one of those really went through. He was ok with white supremacy in the South. He tried to restore slavery.

Why is it relevant today? The reason why is because theses issues keep on coming up and they are probably never going to leave government aid to individuals, states rights and federal-state relations, civil rights, racism, and nationalism.

News Excerpt
Even though this article was written in spring of 2000 I think that it still have a lot of things that are happening right now. The results from what started in the civil war truly helped the African Americans because they have benefited a lot from the laws that have been going through.
